My name is Scott Sonnenberg, and I’m the State General Agent for American Income Life in Alabama. Our primary office is in Birmingham, Alabama, and I have satellite offices further south in Mobile and part of the Florida Panhandle. I’ve been with the Company since 1997.  When I interviewed with American Income Life, I was 23 years old and had worked many different jobs.  And that’s what they all were – only jobs.  A lot of the people who were there before me weren’t much further ahead than I was, and they just seemed to like it dead-ended. So I answered an ad in the newspaper for American Income Life.

When I went for the interview I had no idea who the Company was or what they did and, to be honest with you, I don’t even know why I chose to go to that interview.  But from the initial interview, I saw something real, something really genuine with the people, the management, and the State General Agent in St. Louis, Missouri.  Second, I saw the way they handled their marketing campaigns.  I figured this Company was really spending a lot of money and had a lot of manpower in the advertising and public relations area so that, as professional sales representatives, they would do the marketing for me.  I thought a lot about how they invest in their people and their success.

I was pretty excited when they called me back for a 2nd interview.  At that time, they went through much more detail about what the job consisted of on a daily basis.  I really felt that it was something I could do even without experience in sales or insurance knowledge.  They broke everything down to such a simple level that I really felt I could do well. And since then all I can say is, ‘I’m moving up!’  I was an Agent for three years and then moved up to a Supervising Agent, a General Agent in a year, and then to a Master General Agent, or, what we call a Senior Manager, for about three more years.  I finally got the opportunity to move up to a State General Agent.  I came to Birmingham, Alabama, and opened up the Agency.

During our first three years in Alabama we had 52 percent growth, 17 percent growth, and this year we’re at approximately 75 percent year-to-date growth.   All I can say is there’s no better time than now to be part of a corporation that has grown at a level of 45 percent over the last two years.  I haven’t heard of another corporation that’s growing at that pace, especially in the economic climate that we’re facing.  American Income Life has changed my life, and if you’re fortunate enough to get a position with this Company, it will change yours as well.
